Hi dear surfers !
I'm 193cm/115 kg, good surfer (not competitor) and I'd like to change one of my boards. I'd like an Isonic able to cope with 9,0 and 7,8 and there is a Isonic 145 available where I live. Is ity a good choice or is it too large considering I already have a formula rig ? I'd like something really fast and which feels like a slalom board, not a formula but would an Isonic 133 or 122 be suitable for me with 7,8 and 9,0 ? My Formula quiver : F2 FX 100 IV 2006 North Warp 11m 2006 Deboichet Custom: 70cm R13 and R19 Thank you for your help, greatly appreciated !!!! |

Just to clarify : I'll keep my formula, the iSONIC would replace an old race board (134l)

I think you could go on 144/133 isonics, even if the 144 would be quite similar to your formula quiver..

Hi unregistered
I don't consider myself lightweight (86-88kg), but I really think some heavyweights should chime in with the advice.... I have an iSonic122 for sails 7.3-9.0, but that's a sinker at your weight. The choice between 133 and 144 will depend on the fact do you need extra float (slogging etc) versus top speed/control. Since you used to sail your old raceboard (134lit) and have a larger board (Formula), I'd say go for a 133. |

For 9.0 and 7.8 sails I think you would like the iSonic 145. I think it will give you a faster, more "slalomy" ride than your formula board without requiring a huge amount of wind to get going. For a smaller guy, there might be too much overlap between the 145 and your formula board, but for you I think the combination is appropriate.

Don't you think the 145 is too close to my formula rig ?
It' 80 cm wide and 145 l where my formula is 100 cm large and 154 l ... I'm fine with 8,5 on my old race board (134l) why should it be different with newer boards ? I'm afraid I won't enjoy being with 7,5 or 7,8 on a 80 cm wide board :-( |

I think 100 -> 80 cm width is enough to make a big difference between the formula and the iSonic 145, but if you're happy on the older raceboard you might as well stick with it until it wears out.

Sorry the 145 is 88,5 wide that's why I think its too close to 100.
The 133 07 is 80 wide and the 08 is 85 wide. Which combo would work the best for my weight ? |

I don't think that 5cm will make a huge difference by itself, but I believe 2008 133 is a much improved board. Some users reported 2007 was hard to get planing, this is supposedly better now with the dual flat planing section.
