Default iS111 08 vs. 09

Hi Ian/Remi/Chris!

I have an iS111 08, but I am thinking of upgrading to a 09 model. I hope the answers to these questions will help me decide on what to do...

1. How would you compare these two boards in terms of early planing, planing through the lulls, speed and control? Is there any difference? (The change of the planing threshold and planing through the lulls is what actually interests me the most.)

2. What difference should I expect from the double winger feature? I've read the explanation on the product page, but I not sure I really understand the benefits...

3. I am 75kg and want the use the board in ca. 12-20 knots winds with the 8.3 and 6.8 sails. Should I perhaps go for the 122 instead of 111?

Thanks a lot, cheers,
v.

My 2 cents:
I have the same weight as you and I am using the 111 from 6.6 up to 8.4. Uless you want to use a 9.2 sail I would not go for 122 iSonic. Having a NEw 2009 Isonic will be sweet but not until They prove it is a lot faster and better than 2008.

Hi Veedot,

The iSonic 111 2009 is a bit more confortable but the main inprove is the top end speed with less physical demand.

All the best

Hi DEN-137,

The main diference there is between this 2 boards is the Dual Flat Concept who give a better lengh balance to the board and more confort and more easy to increase your speed.

All the best

Default Sailsize IS 111?

Hi. I have restarted windsurfing 4 years ago (after 17 years break) and now mainly sail Formula (in Northern Norway). Now I am thinking of getting another board when the wind picks up- from time to time- and are looking at the iSonic 111. I sail Formula (10.7 & 9,8) up to about 26 knots but are thinking of an iSonic 111 for a windrange of maybe 18-30+ knots. I need some advice & tips on sailsizes (2 riggs) to best cover this windrange with the IS111 (I am 86kg).

Torc,

I am sure that Remi will offer some suggestions, but I have an 08 iS 111 and weigh 79Kg.

I too sail Formula.

My primary sails for the 111 are 7.6 & 6.6. I also use an 8.4 and I tried a 5.7 once. Sweet spot is about 7.5. For me, the wind range for the 111 is 12 knots to 22 knots. When it's 20 knots plus I get on a smaller board for free sailing.

The 111 is a rough ride where I sail, but is better in open water where the waves / chop are further apart. For me, the board is a bit large for winds over 20 knots.

If you wanted just two sails to cover the 111, maybe a 6.5 and 8.0.

Hi Torc,
looks like you are looking for an iSonic, which also works in stronger wind. I would suggest the 101. The board is compact and easy in jibing. I carries sails (Sweet spot) 6,5 - 7,5, but you will have fun using a bit smaller or a bit bigger, too.
Ken is absolutely right with his recommendations. We also sailed 9,0 on the 111 2009 protos while testing and the board felt pretty nice. Definitely the 111 08 has great speed, but out of my view the 2009 can handle a wider windrange, accelerates amazing and carries a wide range of sailsizes.
The iSonic 2009 is a good choice, if you want to combine your Formula Racing with Slalom sailing, but guess in your case, Torc, the iSonic 101 would fit better.

Chris

I agree with Chris. I got the new 101 2009. Perfect with 7.8 and 6.7
I always used boards widte 69 cm. and volume about 105 liter. The 101 with widte 64 and about 97 liter pick up very early from about 12 knots. I'am 85 Kg
