IS111 v CA66

Hi all
looking at a new board for 12 - 20 knts and sail sizes 6.6 - 8.0. , i'm 85 kg.
The above boards are top of the list but may swing to the iS101 / CA62 if necessary.
I'll be using them on choppy/smooth river (80 % of time) and open ocean with about 2m swell (Ledge to Lancelin marathon).
Too early for 2010 board comments but based on 2009 boards, are there any user thoughts?
Haven't yet demoed a iS and very difficult to demo a CA.
Appreciate your comments.

I use iS122 regularly and I've sailed/tested is111/101 (86kg). I believe a 111 is a better choice in your case (lower end at 12 knots, river current, long distance events), a 101 would suit you more only if you're well powered all the time.
Can't comment on Carbon Art.

Hi Baldy, I have a Is 111 (2008) and a CA 58 (and a 52). Personally I found my CAs too one-dimensional: they work only when overpowered, otherwise they suffer; they are also quite nervous in the ride and it is easy to upset the balance of the board especially in choppy confused seas. In comparison the IS-111 is has at least two gears: an almost freeride one at low speed and a very fast top-end (I am not enough sailor to find its top), plus it is very stable. I never tried CA 62 or the new 66, and it might be that some more volume and size helps the boards being more all-around. CAs are small boards and a Is-111 is probably closer to a CA 70.

Construction wise the CAs seem quite fragile, my CA 58 came with a defect on the deck, has two dents in front following some very minor hits from the mast, and the finish is very rough, the Isonic seem to be much more robust and better finished.

You cannot really go wrong with either, but if I had to do again my quiver, it would be built it around Isonics.

Thanks for the responses guy. Very helpful.
The board will be mainly used in lighter conditions, say 14 - 18 knts, but i want to be able to sail comfortably when it gusts up to 20+ knts and not have to fight it.
How much of a sinker is the 111 for the inevitable lulls ?
The sails i'll be using are NP RX1s 7.0 and 8.0 and a KA Koncept 6.6 - yes the NPs are old but they are in new condition and won't be replaced until they die.

Davide - i like the description of the 111 having like 2 gears. Sounds like what i'm after.

Hi Baldy,

2 boards can do it well the iSonic 101 & 111 depend of sails you have to have the best reults :

Best sail/fin on iSonic 101 : 7,2m²/Sl4 38
Best sail/fin on iSonic 111 : 7,8m²/Sl4 40

iS111 will suit you fine, you won't fight it in 20+ gusts. As Remi says it's ideal sail is around 7.8, I would say sweet spot from 7.2 to 8.2, but you can use it from around 6.7 to 8.5 no problem.
It is a near sinker with 85kg rider and 8m rig (85+20kg gear = 105), but unless you plan on schloging for miles in 2 knots, don't worry. Have you used ~105l boards (or smaller) before? As long as you are moving (however slow) and you have 5/6 knots of wind you'll get home.
