Hi all,
First post on here. Have only been windsurfing a few months , not in the straps or using a harness yet. I've recently acquired a carve 133 and have yet to get a sail. Due to finance restrictions i'm only getting 1 sail to start with. I usually hire kit at a local lake and the wind is usually 10-15kts ,i'm thinking a 6m to start with , will i be able to progress with this sail or will it be too little power to improve, Cheers all HG |

6.0m should be fine, it's what I use most of the time, though I'm 55kg. Does the wind ever pick up at your spot? say 15-20 knots? Once you improve it will be better for that range depending on your weight.

Hi Hans, Welcome to the Staboard Forums!
For 10-15 knots, if you have some experience sailing the hire kit, you would want at least a 7.5 m2 rig on the Carve 133. How much you weigh can have a significant impact on yoiur sail size, as well as the fct you are sailing on fresh water. A 6.0 would do as a trainer sail, but you will never get planing in 10-14 knots. If (as Agrelon suggests) you get 15-20 knots, then the 6.0 begins to make much more sense. Hope this helps, |

Cheers guys much appreciated , i'm 75kgs if that helps. It looks like if i get a 6m i'll be looking to get something bigger, 7-7.5m as soon as possible. Occasionally the wind does get above 15kts but it gets really gusty after 20kts

Hi Hans,
6.0 for 75 Kg with a Carve 133 would be good at 16-18 knots. 6.5 " " " " " " " would be good at 14-16 knots 7.0......................................would be good at 13-15 Knots 7.5 m2 (or larger) for anything under 12-13 knots Hope this helps, |
