Hi Guys
I am an 85kg advanced sailor sailing here in Western Australia. I have 2009/10 IS 86 and 121 plus a 2008 101. I am using new Reflexs 7.8, 7.0 and 6.2 and CR 9.0 for the season. I would like to upgrade the 101 to perhaps a new 97 to fit in my quiver as a medium wind board (for me ~17-22 knots). Would this be the right choice? Would it be possible to cover most slalom conditions here with only 2 boards? The 86 is an essential board for 25+knots here but could i combine the other two into 1 that would work with the sail range in question? What would consider to be a good 3 board quiver for these conditions and sail range? Appreciate any feedback. Cheers JC |

Hi JC,
If you keep the 86 and 121 it will be great to up grade your 101 by the 97. iSonic 86 : 6.2/7.0 iSonic 97 : 6.2/7.0/7.8 iSonic 121 : 7.8/9.0 Now if you want to know the perfect size 3 boards for your weight and sails, that will give you this : iSonic 87 : 6.2/7.0 iSonic 107 : 7.0/7.8 iSonic 117 Wide : 7.8/9.0 All the best

Hi Kvda,
Basically we improve a lot the control in high winds but also early planning with a good acceleration and very fast exit jibe. So at the end you get a quiet big step between this 2 boards. The change are visible particularly the deep deck concave who increase a lot the control, my favorite sails on it are the 6.2 and 7.0, very high performances. But you can use also very well the 7.8 but at this time is the 107 who will be the best. The progressive Hard Rail who give better planning and fast acceleration and exit jibe. The construction also is a big improvement with the Biax carbon who have an average of 760 g lighter than the wood version but also more stiff with no vibration as the wood. Hope this help All the best

Wow Remi, quite a big difference! I was afraid the planing was less compared to the 101 because of the lesser volume around the mast - but probably I was wrong. I've seen your name is on the 97! By the way, I've purchased the wood edition.
I will use the board with 6.7 and 7.2, but also 7.8 sometimes and 6.2 when the wind isn't good enough for my 85. The 2010 101 was great with 6.7-7.2-7.8 but felt quite big for 6.2. With more control in high winds, 6.2 should work better on the 97. Ok, let the wind blow! |

Yesterday I took the 97 out with the RS Racing 7.2, Tectonics Goldwing 38 and 36. It was great!
In the morning the wind was not very strong, so I could test the planing abilities of the 97. I think the board planes like the 101, maybe slightly better. The straps are positioned great! Natural stance. The masttrack is moved back. Therefore the board rides on the fin more, is more loose on the water, is better upwind maintaining high speed upwind. Gybing is remarkably better than on the 101, the thin nose cuts through the water. Later the wind picked up, 7.2 was quite big sometimes, I changed the GW 38 for a 36. Here comes the biggest difference compared to the 101: what a control in this 97. The 97 feels much more in control, stays flat on the water and reaches high speeds due to the control. For me the 97 is the better board, it's actually more "clever" with better strap postioning, deep deck and mastrail backwards with better control. I did not think the difference was this big! Great job you all did Remi, It will not be easy to make the 2012 edition much better! |

After a few sessions more, the 97 is really a great board for me. But I've got the feeling that the Goldwings a not the best fins for the 97.
So, what would be a great fin for the 97 with RS Racing 6.7 evo1 / racing 7.2/ racing 7.8? any other suggestions next to the deboichets? |
