Default Isonic Choice

I am looking at the Isonic for local / club slalom racing. I am 86kg and sail in an area where the average wind (in season) is 8-25 knots. I am looking at the Isonic 122, but was wondering what the team recommends.

8/10 FW with 10.7/11.5 is the only weapon you can use...
10/12 Isonic 133 with 10.0 is not too far from FW

Isonic 122 above 12 knots with a 8.5/9.0 and a good rider

Thanks for your reply. I already own a F161 w/ 10.7 / 11.8 so the 122 will be a good choice above 12knots. At what point do you think I will need something smaller ? I notice the 122 is rated for 6.0-9.5 so my guess is that this will be good until 18-23 knots, right? At that point the only option is a smaller board.

Thanks again,

I ride an iSonic 122 with a 7.6 and 6.6 MauiSails TR2. I am 180cm and 70 kg. I have sailed the 7.6 with the smaller supplied fin in 18-20 knots, and the 6.6 in more than 20. For me the board is quite big and is really good in the lighter wind range, under 20 knots. But for your weight, IMHO the board is just about perfectly sized to overlap with your FW board.

With your extra 16 kg over me, depending on your skill, water state, and sail, I would think you could use the 122 up to 25 knots EASILY with a 6.5 to 7.0 race sail.

You should also be roaring around in 12 knots with around an 8.5 or 9.0 sail. If you have never ridden an iSonic, you are in for a treat.

My 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.

Hi Prsurf,
the 122 is a great choice. You will have a board for a wide windrange, which carries a 9,0 without any problems. Get in a 44 or 46. For 8.5 around 42 or 44. The good thing is that the board works pretty fine with smaller sizes like 7.6. You can make the 122 really fast using your experiences from Formula board sailing.
All the best,
