Hi Starboard-Team!
I (75kg, 181cm) have a Carve 111 from 2006 which I use with sails from 5.4 to 7.5 with a 36cm freeride-fin (NOT the original Drake fin). Can you tell me the maximum finsize for this board? How can I calculate the maximum finlength for a board? Thx alot and have fun on the water! Andreas |

Andreas,
Maximum fin lenght for a race/freerace/freeride board is given by width at one foot off (width OFO). That value for your carve is 43.4 cm. On a Carve111 2001, a race 40 cm fin with an 8.2 sail was really stretching it to the maximum in the low wind range but with low diminishing return (OK solution for a 1 board quiver). With your 7.5 sail, I would not go beyond 38-40 cm as maximum, however. You can perform a search of old forum posts on the 2006 archive forum web site, plenty of posts on that subject. At the high end of the spectrum, I was using a 26 cm slalom fin with a 5.4 sail on Carve111. The stock freeride 32 cm was way too large for my 65 kg in 20-25 knots of wind. Cheers ! JM |
