NS are crap. The larger sizes fill with water and weigh an extra 1kg.
THERE ARE NO DRAIN HOLES!? What were they thinking? |

HPL is by far the best for price , weight and performance
Maui is super stiff but weighs and cost more. Naish wide boom head don't seems to suit slalom board unless above 85cm |

The HPL formula booms weight a ton, much like the Maui Sails formula booms. Super stiff but heavy. The "streamline" type boom head on the HPL,s are crap. Replaced mine with a Maui Sails head.

We are comparing 190-240. the boomhead on HPL is not the streamline type.
Weight about 10-15% lighter than Maui . |

I personally used the Naish carbon boom 190-240. IMO, i will not recommend it.
First of all, it is way heavier compared to other booms. Secondly, I have had this problem of the boom end popping loose when sailing, ...one side of the twin pin level burst loose during sailing ...unbelievable. So i ended up using duck tape to secure both sides of it. Can u imagine having to remove and put on new tape everytime u adjust the boom length? |

I bought 3 Naish carbon booms (190-240) because :
1. They were available. 2. They were a good price. I agree thay felt "heavy" but havent bothered with actual comparisons because they have now been working well for several months and I have no complaints. |

Maui Sails. No problems, super tough. Default choice, no need to risk.

shredulato,
If you can't afford the Maui Sails boom and ultimately go with HPL, you really ought to consider upgrading the front end to the MS one. I have a 2003 HPL which I upgraded with the MS front end, and the difference is truly incredible. Needless to say, the old HPL front end was a terrible design that was a pain to attach and remove, and it never provided a solid attachment to the mast. I'm not sure of the design of HPL's most current front end, but I seriously doubt that it equals the MS one. |
