If 162 is smelling then Jesper Vesterblom is really a great racer beiing able to reach 6th place with an inferior board??

Just stop wining, start training. Most gear of last years is capable to do the job. It is in the indian and in it's capability to trim and tune for the max.

It's kind of funny to read this actually. A year ago the 161 was considered too difficult to sail, too AA like, demanded a strong rider etc etc. Now everyone is praising the board which they abandoned a year ago ? Make up your minds.

But IMO it's interesting to see a board performing well in certain conditions, and in others a different board has the advantage. Look at the latest F2, the big Z, clearly favored in the light winds at the Euro's but when the wind picked up the SB's were favored. Same seems to be the case at the World's in Portimao, in the lighter conditions the Z and SB 162 had an advantage.

I don't believe that Starboard would make a bad board, maybe it's better on lighter winds like the Z.
We didn't see a "revolution" about boards and sails in the last few years, and I think that's why we saw a F161 winning the worlds. Wojtek believed in a little more wind than the F162 guys expected and he won the bet.
There are lot more things to win races than just the board, I remember that Steve Allen chose the F160 last year in Fortaleza because he knows there would be a windy championship, and he wanted more control and Wojtek just did the same.
One interesting thing I notice about Wojtek, he didn't show any sponsor sticker on his gear, No Starboard sticker on sails, even the tiki stickers is gone and no other sponsor stickers.
Some F2 guys chose the F2Z hoping for lighter winds too. See the post "To Z or not to Z" by Steve Bodner in his blog:

Finally I think Wojtek would win win with the F162 anyway. He wanted to win so badly that nobody could stop him.

Maybe good... maybe bad!!!

I agree and it's very good to see that 2 or 3 years boards and sails are still competitive. It's very good to stop that paranoia of changing boards every year.

But the bad thing is that now we see the pros going to championships with 3 or 4 boards and choosing the best one in the last minute to the conditions of wind and sea. I agree that the small changes can create benefits to specific conditions, like the 160 for high winds and the 162 for light winds.

Around here--a high wind area, the F159 has a lot of fans -- the newer Starboards, not so much. And a couple of guys have gone back to 159, (with newer fins) or are planing to if they can find one in good shape. Roberts work well here too.

I'd be curious to compare the 08 Exocet with a 159, because from a distance they seem to have similar lines.

it's obvious that the 161 and the 160 are better than the 162. the guys using the 162 were on the FW One design boards..maybe because those three boards arrived at the very last second to the worlds...????? chequed boards maybe...?? custom maybe...????
So obvious what is going on..! Wojtec won because we had almost 11 races on perfect conditions for him...what would have happend if only one day of light winds would have come...???? would he still win...!!
is funny how everybody says that Antoine would have won aswell...he was invited to come...why didnt he??? maybe because the last time he stepped on a formula board he got third...?? at the northamericans..behing Jesper and Gonzalo..
