Default Q for Remi/Ian: Deboichet SL4 vs. SL2?

I would like to ask which fin is more suitable for figure of 8 slalom racing (not downwind) for isonic 2009 (101/122), SL4 or SL2?

Which fins do you recommend for is122/8.2 and is101/6.7? My weight is 83k and I already have SL4 34 and SL2 36/38.

Thanks
Marko

Hi Marko,

In this specialy case, you need a fin who work well every where particularly in up wind. 8 slalom racing if the wind change just a little, you need to do up wind.

So I will say the SL2 beacause is better for up wind.

All the best

Hi Remi!
I have more or less a same question, just for different boards...
I am 74 kg and use 08 iSonics 86 (5.5 + 6.8 sails) and 111 (6.8 and 8.3 sails) for figure 8 slalom racing (will change them for 09 models soon).

Which deb fins would you recommend for the is86/6.8 and is 111/8.3 combinations (that means for lighter wind combos for both boards)?

I guess i should go for the more powerful sl2 models, however, I am not sure what are the maximum sizes these boards (with mentioned sails and my weight) woud still perform well with... Maybe sl2 35(36?) and 41(42?), respectively?

Cheers,
V.

Hi Veedot,

Hum, I never test over than 34 on the iSonic 86 and I am 81 kgs. My favorite in 6,7mē is the SL5 34cm but also use the SL2 or SL4 34cm when is more light. In your case because of 8 slalom and your weight the SL4 34 must be good. But notice that for your 5,5mē the SL5 32 or 30 depend of the water and wind condition will be the best.

I use the SL2 or SL4 38 with 7,7 and 44 with the 9mē, you want a fin for lighter winds so the SL2 40cm must be enough.

All the best

Remi, thanks for the clear answer!

What do you think about this combinations:

is122-8.2-sl2 42
is122-6.7-sl2 38 (only for gusty offshore flatwater conditions)
is101-6.7-sl2 38 (figure of 8 slalom)
is101-6.7-sl4 36 (downwind slalom)
is101-5.5-sl4 36

I already have sl4 34 which I find perfect on is101 2007 for 5.5. Do you think it will be to small for is101 2009?

Thanks
Marko

Hi Marko,

Everything make sense except for the iSonic 101 with 5,5.

Suppose to be strong winds with that sail, I never use it with 5,5, but for sure I will use a fin around 32.

I put CR 5,6 on iSonic 86 with SL5 34 to 30 depend of the water and wind condition.

All the best
