I just bought an Isonic 101 2008 second hand, only to realize when I came home with it that 2 of the backstraps inserts have stripped threads.
Using slightly thicker screws would be an option, if I could find any that is. I live in France and we don't have permatex. Plus I have read in another similar thread that this is not that efficient anyway. See here : http://www.star-board.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5505 and here : http://www.star-board.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4200 So how to restore the damaged threads permanently ? Any magic trick ? Using the other insert holes is not a good option to me, I always put the straps at the back to have the best speed. I have a local race in a couple of days and need a solution quick ! |

I had the same thing happen in my formula board. I use the next size screw and that was it.

Hi Anowan,
If you cannot find Permatex Thread repair kits, go to your local auto parts or bearing supply shop/store and see what they have that works the same way. The nay sayers in the quoted articles probably did not dry out the insert hole, something slippery (like silicone) somehow got in the damaged hole, or the guy who says the epoxy unscrewed when he back the screw out probalby did not use the blue release compound on the screw. I've repaired many boards this way, and never had any complaints, even when the repair was done in the 1/2 hour between races. Hope this helps, |

The type of screw you should look for is the PT-type, see
http://www.prelok-fasteners.com/fastenerspt.html I believe the original is the K60 and the next size up is the K70. Head type should be pozi 3. Get length be measuring your current screw. Stainless of course. I don't know a french supplier, but there should be a few since this type of screw is licensed to many manufacturers. Search for a good local screw supplier and start there. A well sorted windsurf shop might also have them. I've heard new JP boards come stock with a few spare screw in the next bigger dimensions. Let us know if you don't find a supplier. |
