Quad Slalom/Speed

The Quad wave boards are upon us http://www.totalwind.net/foro/viewto...st=0&sk=t&sd=a and I wonder: is there room for the development of a slalom or speed board with quad fins? It looks like the quads are going to be much more flexible in applications than the duo fins and the fins can be much smaller.

Is a Speed board with 3" fins on the horizon? or an all-around high-wind slalom?

wow, thats just weird looking, certainly hit a few branches when it fell out of the ugly tree

. Maybe it would generate to many air cavities at a speed/slalom pace c/w wave sailing??

SB Brief:
more drive, more traction, the ability to generate more speed on the wave face, turn closer and tighter, ride more vertical with the ability to go where you want, when you want.

Not really whats need in a speed board, but nice idea.

As I think they say here in the US "many ways to skin a cat". If anything it looks like going 4 (or 5) fins opens a wide range of possibilities, and there might be ways of positioning smll fins on a speed/slalom board that are quite different then you do it on a wave board. A hydrofoil effect on a slalom/speed board might be achieved by positioning fins further toward the nose, or you might be able to strongly increase low-end without compromising much the upper end of the board. For a speed board it will also reduce by a lot the depth of the fin, so that you can go where kites go to set their "speed records": in 3" of water.

More possibilities that I can list ... and I am just curious to see if this technology will spill over to slalom/speed

Well, listen to Anders Bringdal (starting to discuss speed windsurfing at 2.40 and mentioning multi fins at 3.40). Food for thought.

Nice footage of Hydroptere, amazing sailboat ... flipping it mast be very scary (although sailrocket did a back-flip last year!!!!)

Re multiple-fins: Now I am tempted to get a bunch mini-boxes and start a project with my old Kinetic that nobody wants to buy!

Here is the question I posted 2 months ago. It is kind of great to see a guy like Bringdal making the same analysis!

"Hi, my question might seems stupid to the pros that you are, but I was wandering if the solution for competing with the kites in shallow water conditions could be to use two small fins instead of a long one? Do you know if it has been tried before?"
