Light wind slalom board for heavy weight

Hi,

I've been considering stepping out of formula windsurfing because of several reasons, main ones being I prefer slalom and formula is becoming too expensive (+ i have some good offers on new 2009 slalom boards).

That said, I'd like to get some inputs about following questions (maybe Remi can help)?

As my light wind board, shall I go for Isonic 144 or 150? What are differences in early planning between these boards? and max wind? How do they handle chop? Will I loose a lot in early planning compared to formula (have been racing using the 162 formula board).


Weight: 100kg
max sail size: 9.9m RamF9
Wind conditions: 7-15knots (mostly around between 7 and 11)
salty water
next board down is a Isonic 122
I won't be competing, just recreational slalom sailing

Hi Alex,

At your weight and with 9,9m² sail, the iSonic 150 will be the perfect solution if of course you don't use it agaisnt Formula for racing.
With the iSonic with that sail, you will have same planing but more fast on the reach but a bit less up wind ability of course.

With your advise being the 150 Im strongly considering this board. Could you just comment how it compares to the 144? Reason for that is that I have sailed the 144 before and it would help me to understand the key differences between those boards.

Hi Alex,

Ok this board will plane earlier and will be more easier also with foot-straps position more inside and better volume distribution to have a better length balance with a 10m²
Faster in lighter winds for sure
