Hi all, I'm 70kg and have isonic 111 and north s_type 7.8. With this set i start plane with 13-14 knots, my question is...
With a North warp 8.0, so a full slalom race sail, will I plane also with 13-14 knots or it need more wind? Another question, according to you... with a 38cm Fin, what is the "wind limit" to use the 7.8 S_type? Thanks |

That being said the added weight might make it more difficult to pump and make the board take off, though I think more profile in the sail would more than compensate for this.

Not too much experience with North.
Only used a few times rented North sails in Surf Centers abroad. If I remember well, the s__type of north has also 2/3 cambers which makes it probably a freerace sail. Be careful about the early planing capacities between freerace sails and full slalom sails. Often the lighter freerace sails plane earlier, just because they are so light and also easy to pump. The big advantage of the full slalom/race sails like the Warp (with 4 cambers), is their capability of handling overpowered wind forces. This gives them a much bigger wind range, especially in the high end.

I have NS S-TYPE 7.8, my weight is 90kg and I usually use it for winds from 15 to 25 knots, but I can take short wind gusts over 30 with it. I didn’t use NS RAM or WARP my self but I was windsurfing with people who did use them so I could compare. There are specifications in NS manual which state that S-TYPE will plane with less wind than same size RAM or WARP but with less top speed. My observations would confirm specifications in NS manual, but differences are not big.
For 7.8 and 70kg you need 42 or 44cm fin, I usually use 46. |
