I have an 08 Kode 80 which I have been using an old 22cm G10 fin (Skater by Finz, mid 90's) and was thinking of updating to either a Drake Natural Wave G10 or MFC K1, then I read somewhere that polyester fins where preferred on Kode's which would mean Drake polyester or MFC 2K. Not wanting to by a full quiver of fins what is the current thinking?
I ride mainly down the line conditions in Western Australia, Mandurah, Geraldton and Gnarloo (when the chance arises). Traditional carving turns, not sliding style. 78Kg's using 5.3 to 4.5's. (Probably get a 24cm as well) |

The SKater was a fairly flexy and narrow outline G10 fin, right? So for a two fin quiver, I reckon either Drake 22+24 or MFC K1 21.5+23 (my feeling is that the K1 generated a bit more lift per size, but you may want to check with Kevin or MFC).
I wouldn't worry too much about polyester or G10. In the MFC program, I would surely go for the G10 K1 for the Kode. And regarding Drakes, the new polysester is tad softer but a tad thicker and generates around as much power as late generation G10s. Early generation Drake Natural G10 were very, very soft though, and sailed smaller relative their size (but oh so sweet - as light weight sailor those early ones are still my fav single fins). |

Compared to an 03 Acid fin the skater is narrower in profile and thinner through center outline. I will add a post on Kev's page. Is there a visual way to tell different generation drake fins?

Yes, I think the easiest is that the newer generation come in a little "sleeve" that has see though plastic on one side. The old ones came on full EVO covers.
I will check if I can find some other visual tell tales. |
