Question Kode 94

Hi!
I am eyeing a 2010 slightly used wood-carbon Kode 94. I currently have the Futura 111 (to use with Severne Turbo 7.5) and absolutely love it (quality, speed, comfort!), and my expectations are pretty high for the Kode as well.

I weigh about 165 lbs or so, and will likely use Kode 94 in the San Francisco Bay Area (some chop, some flat water), or maybe in some windy Michigan lakes. It'd be my high wind board. I currently have a 2008 Tabou 97 3S and the Kode 94 would be its replacement. I have a hard time planing with the duck tail and the wind range isn't as wide.

Do you think Kode 94 would be a good replacement for the Tabou and a complement to Futura 111, given the wind ranges? I am looking for a versatile bump & jump high wind board that I can keep for a long time. Or should I go for the smaller Kode 86? What's the typical and actual wind ranges that people use these boards in?

Thanks,
Hazim

I weight 20 pounds more than you do and I prefer the K86 as my higher wind board. I start using it at 15-16 knots with a 5.8 sail. I found the K94, especially the wood/carbon model a bit harsh for high wind riding. The all wood model is my preference.

Thanks for the comments... I am looking at a sail quiver of 4.7, 5.5 and 6.4 maybe for the Kode 94... Futura 111 is mainly for my Severne Turbo 7.5, though I can use it with the 6.4 on flatter conditions... I guess I am so impressed with the quality of the Futura that I am hoping and excited to feel the same way with the Kode. But is it the 94 or the 86? And maybe I get to keep the Tabou 3s 97...

I have 2012 k94 and it feels smaller than say the 2009 model. The new one turns better, quicker to plan and great for jumping.

Hi MOP,

I have the 2011 wood Kode94. I am 82kg and 185cm tall. For me a 5.5m wave sail feels pretty much perfect on the Kode. I have tried it with a 6m no cambered freeride sail also but I didn't feel as comfortable on this setup. I can go down to a 4.7m and it still feels very nice. I also have the Futura111 which I use with a 7m sail.
