Default Q for Remi: Deboichet SL2 vs. Drake?

Hi Remi,

How do you find Drake Slalom Pro fins delivered with 2007 isonics in comparison to Deb SL2?

I ordered isonic101 which I will use from marginal 7.6 conditions to overpowered 6.6. I am 75-80kg.

I will get two fins with this board (34&40) and would like to pick one more SL2 fin for this board. I was thinking about SL2 36cm.

The question is, are these Drake fins comparable to deboichet or I will find better performance with SL2 36cm 99% of the time?

If drake 34 and 40 are very good, should I go for slightly bigger SL2 to fill the gap more evenly?

Thanks
Marko

Hi Marko,

The drake Slalom Pro are good fins (same shape as the SL2) but definitely not the same material inside.

So yes the SL2 are really beter, I am using the SL2 34, 36 and 38 on this board with 6,7 and 7,7m. In lighter wind I go for my iSonic 133 with SL2 44 or SL2 52 depend of the sail size 9 or 10m.

So yes the SL2 36 is a good choice.

All the best

Default RE: Q for Remi: Deboichet SL2 vs. Drake?

Remi told me to buy a SL2 38 for my RSS 7.8 & Isonic 111

Very good choice ! It's obviously better than my Drake Slalom Pro 36.

Very nervous and fast with better control in choppy water, and best response in lighter winds.

Thanks Remi,

I will go for sl2 36.

One more question...Are there any conditions where you would actually prefer Drake slalom pro 34 to deb sl2 36?
Is it a better choice in overpowered 6.6 conditions in heavy chop or deboichet 36 is always a better choice?
In other words, is there any use for drake 34 if I also have sl2 36?
I guess I will find the other stock fin (40) useable in marginal 7.6 conditions.

Thanks
Marko

Marko,

last season I bought a Sonic 95 (with stock Drake 32) and, after sailing it a bit, I ordered SL2 in 30, 32 and 34.
I totally agree with the above post: "Very nervous and fast with better control in choppy water, and best response in lighter winds". I would also add way better control at speed.
That said, I think there will still be use for my Drake 32 in much confused conditions. If chop is really heavy and totally disorganized, such to limit your speed anyhow, then there would be reduced advantage for the SL2 while the Drake will be a bit easier to control at those lower speeds. In other terms, in my home spot, in classic Summer W to NW breezes I will always use the SL2s; in onshore SW winds, I could decide for the Drake Pro.
