Default For Ian RE C3

Hi Ian
I know you have used C3 X series fins so hope you can advise.

I can get my 05 Sonic 90 upto 36/37 knots v-max but it gets real "fly" at this speed, I'm struggling to keep the nose down and it feels like I cant get much more speed. I'm wondering if a c3 X1 with its 30 degree rake might help to keep the nose lower. Have you used a C3 X1 on the sonic 90 and will it help me? or is it bad trimming on my side?

I'v been offered a Z1 27, 31 or 33cm. I remember Boogie once saying that a z1 26cm was good for a 6.2m/53cm wide slalom board and could still track back up-wind.

I'm using a Select Evo 29cm (but also just got an Evo 25cm, but havn't tried it as yet). I'm 107kg and using a Warp 5.8m & 6.4m. Would be real nice to hit the big 40k before changing the S90 for the new iS70 something that hopefully will be out latter this year.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Likely it's Z1 @ 27/31/33, bcos X1/X2 really only ever go to 24-25cm.

These are two different fin types, the X1/X2 being the heavily raked speed specific and the Z1 Zulu being the super slalom. Z1 27 will be very good for speed on S90 when well powered and broad on flat water (definitely a 40kt combo), & for marginal megaspeed (esp with 107kg) the 31 would/could also be a good option for S90 in less than fully lit speed.

As you likely know, those fins are a bit like gold, don't grow on trees, so as long as they are in good condition, should be a very good catch.

Neither the Z1 27 nor 31 would be "redundant" with new iS's , either..

Cheers ~ Ian

PS: we're taking bets on whose fins these are (were).

Hi Ian
Thanks for the reply. C3's site is closed so its difficult to get info. I'll grab the 27 & 31.

Many thanks

p.s. Not sure about the 27, but the 31 & 33 are from Dave Mc Innes (ex NZ now in London), did you win?

Hi Mark,

re-reading my comments above, just want to clarify the 33 would not be redundant on the new iS either, just that size will be far more slalom weapon than top end pure speed. If the fins are good and Dave wants to sell, I'll take that 33 if you don't. (absolutely no joke!)

Damn, lost the bet on that one. Both me and Boogie both calculated instantly on the source being the one same guy (you can count the number of Z1's made in "odd" (rather than even) cm sizing on one hand. Ha. Just goes to show !

Cheers ~ Ian

Hi Ian
I'v missed the boat on the 27, its gone. I'v managed to get a real cheap Tectonics 30 so I'm leaving the 31 & 33 as really Its a 27 that I need for the S90/40k goal. I'll PM you Daves email so you can contact him direct. He's looking for £100 a piece (maybe less for both). I'll let him know that you may be contacting him soon. I'v heard on the grape-vine that booggie is working on something very special, this might be just the ticket to help me squeeze that bit extra out of the S90.

Cheers

P.S. Will PM you tommorrow, could'nt send it as you "in-box" is full.

Cheers
