I just received my new 2006 PA 73L. Looks great and I can't wait to sail it. However, I noticed that it seems obnoxiously heavy, for a 73L board. It's the DRAM version, but I thought it should be about 6.8kg. It feels just as heavy or heavier than my 95L Kombat from 05, which is supposed to be 7.6kg.
Am I just misjudging the weight or is there something potentially wrong with the board...OR is it simply just a heavy board for a 73L? |

Maybe you should weigh it?

The weight posted on the 2006 website (6.8?) is an average of a big number of real production boards and then there is a variation of around +-4%. Your board should not be heaier than that. As Happy says, try to weight it if you are woried. Remember, the weight is without straps and fin.

I don't know what was wrong with me, I must have been weak last night when I was analyzing the boards weight. I took all the footstraps off and went down to the local veterinary clinic to weigh it on their large/accurate scale. AND it's quite the opposite of what I though, it only weighs 6.2kg according to their scale!!! So significantly lighter than the 6.8kg average. I guess I struck it lucky.
Thanks for the advice guys. |
