I'm 99kg, shorter than you at 1.75m and have the iSonic 111 which the 107 replaced. I find the sails i use on it most are my 7.3m & 8.3m and would say these sails would be the optimal sizes for the board. I do use a 6.4m occasionally on the board but that is only when it is very gusty and i need a bit of extra float to get me through the lulls.
Hope this helps

Agree with above, I have used 8.6/7.8/7.0 with this board I'm 188/95.
7.8 is the sweet spot and gives the best range with 40/41 fin. The 8.6 is more suited to power off the wind, downwind slalom etc... The 7.0 if you need more float as in the above post. Should also mention this has been one of my all time favourite boards, just does it all!

The problem is, I sailed the 107 last weekend and it felt great. Very early planing, a lot of control, speed with ease.
Except overpowered with 7.2, the 101 feels better (faster) but when wind is gusty indeed, the 107 is better. I am in doubt: changing my 101 for a 107 of go for the 97 and a 75cm wide board. |

Mainly as I decided to get rid of the 8.6. I much prefer the 7.8/107 combo, massive wind range, and you don't lose that much bottom end compared to the 8.6. And now I don't even sail the 90, I just hop on the W54. So for the me the 107 covers a big wind range. I certainly wouldn't swap your 101, for a 107. 7.2 is more suited to the 97. My advice is if you use your 8.6 a heap, then the 117/97 is the way to go.

hi,
sails: RS Racing 5.4- 6.2- 6.7- 7.2- 7.8- 8.4- 9.0 5.4+6.2+6.7 on the sonic 85 (2006) 6.2+6.7+7.2+7.8 on the isonic 101 (2010) 7.8+8.4+9.0 on the isonic 125 (2006) Actually a great quiver. Want to keep my sonic 85 (2006) because I like it a lot, and do not use it very often so it stays in good condition. The isonic 125 which I bought new in 2006 needs replacement, it's very often used. The 101 is back to the dealer, It was getting soft already, guarantee issue, still waiting for reply. I was in doubt of replacing the 125 and 101 for the 107. But now I think I will loose low end, and create a gap between the sonic 85 and the 107, where the 101/97 is just great. |

Hi kvda, your quiver is similar to mine and I was thinking about the same thing, i.e. replacing the 101 and 122 by the 107, just to have 1 board less.
The problem is that the 101 is so d*mn good. I've never used my 8.8 on the 101, but I suppose it works quite well on a 107 with my weight of 87kg. The 8.8 is really the sweet spot on the 122 for me. When you said that you felt overpowered with the 7.2 on the 107 last weekend, I suppose on saturday, where were you sailing ? Grevelingen, kabbelaarsbank ?

Hi Kvda,
I am 92kgs and unsing 87/107/127 but with this sails : 87 : 5.6/6.2/7.0 107 : 7.0/7.8/8.6 (Down wind only) 127 : 8.6/9.7 In your case is good to keep the Sonic 85 really good one and this what I propose you if you want to replace the 101 & 122 : 97 : 6.2/6.7/7.2/7.8 (Down Wind Only) 117 Wide : 7.2/7.8/8.4/9.0 Your sails are not over 9.0 so 127 is not need to get the best performances Did you ever test the 117 Wide? Hope this help All the best

HI
@belskorpio: I was at Veerse Meer, Schotsman. @remi: yes, I tested the 117 wide, but I think I must be the exception who did not like it, high ride on the water, different to the other Isonic shapes. I think I'll go for the 97 and 117 (75cm) tnx for your responses! |
