Hello,
The Carve 131 (my2005) has a factory fitted 48cm fin. Has anyone tried a smaller fin on this board. Will a 38 be ok, or is it too small? Conditions of use: 70kg, 6-8m2 sails, flat or chop, up to 5bft. Thanks. Tony |

Hi Tony,
You can use a smaller fin, but your upwind and early planing performance will suffer. Why do you want to use a smaller fin? Sandbars and water depth problems? Something else.....? You might go a little faster with a smaller fin, but getting the board to plane is going to be much more difficult. If water depth is the issue, have you considered a weed fin? Hope this helps, |

Thanks Roger!
Actually I want it for low wind days only, for freeride fun. And if the wind goes up, it gets very unstable (I weigh 70kg), and I thought, maybe with a 38cm fin (from the 121lt Carve for example) it will be ok for the smaller sail I use with it (6m2). What do you say? Thanks again for your time. Tony |

Hi Tony,
I'm a bit lighter than you and use a 36 cm fin with 6, 6.5 and 7.3 sqm sails on my ST126. 38 cm should be OK with your 6 sqm sail, or even bigger ones as long as there is enough wind. |
