Hi
I am a beginner, I am in Melbourne, recently started to plane with harness and footstraps. I am 195cm tall and 115 kg heavy. I have Sailworks Retr 9.0 (I love that sail !) and Gaastra Pilot 6.5 (which I am going to sell) and I hope to buy another Retro (7.5 ?) I am going to buy Go170 soon...is that good (best) choice for me, that board ? I need to learn waterstart and gybe soon and I hope to plane fast and crash a lot. |

What board have you been learning on?
The GO 170 should work great for you when there is at least enough wind to plane with the 9.0. But in lighter winds, the deck will be awash with water under your weight and you will be slow and unstable. If you want to get good performance in winds too light to plane you may want a longer board with more volume (200+ liters) and a centerboard. |

Personally I think he Go 170 should be an excellent choice, I have a Go 165, granted I only weigh 90 odd kilos but it has loads of bouyancy.
