Hello,
Do you need to use any spacers for the 7.7 CR R1 icm the 460 red line mast? Compared to the 9.0 CR R1 that I also own, the rotation is very difficult. I use close 1-2cm of the max downhaul (so 490-491cm) and the sail looks flat and has a lot of loose leach. Almost feel like I should less downhaul? Thnx for any pointers! I rig my 7.7 CR1 with 28cm extension on 460 redline, so total of 488cm and that feels very good to me. Leech is plenty lose but still have some shape in the front. It's a fantastic sail with great wind range. Is it the bottom cam that is causing the problem? Maybe just ease the batten tension a fraction (half a turn or so).

Thanks Pierre, that makes sense, the print says 492, but that just feels too much. Will try 488 next time!

Sure always look at the sail when rigging, factory setting is only a ca. guideline.
Do you use the Severne mast extension ? If not, some extensions pull the sail pulley very close to the mast and that can cause rotation problems at bottom cam, and makes the sail a bit more flat and more leach tension to. Have seen it on Overdrive too. The lowest cam can get locket in an odd angle. Experienced it with 8,5 Overdrive. After changing to Severne extension it works perfect. The 4 rollers, fitting exactly to the sail pulleys make rigging very easy too. I never thought, that changing extension could change so much. Even with the Gator you can se a difference, the bottom batten rotates easier especially when rigged for light wind. Cheers |

Hi Hookipa,
I go for 492,5 luff with the 460 and extension and put some spacers on. Perhaps there are 2 mm on already, when you got the sail. In my 7,7 there are the spacers as following: 2,4,4,2 The rotation is so much better and the shape, too. The sail has not a super deep profile indeed, but works fine. Chris www.chrispressler.com |

Chris, how is the setting on your extension, ie 32.5 cm ? And just to be sure, this is the CR R1 from 2006 right ? |

Hi Hank,
my setting is 32,5 cm on the Severne Extension together with the 460 Severne Redline. The print on the sail is 493. I am not sure, which 7,7 I have, but itīs red, not dark red. Itīs definitely a 7,7 from 2007, a "07" or a "R2". Since I rigged the Code Red 9,0 m 08 the first time (thanks for the help to Peter), I got more interested in playing around with spacers. Jesper gave me some great help. I felt like the 7,7 did rotate a bit hard and had some wrinkels at the pocket. So I put on some more spacers, like mentioned and it works out greta. Just play around with this little plastic tools and try to find a good balance of tension and rotation. All the best, Chris www.chrispressler.com Last edited by Chris Pressler; 21st April 2008 at 04:16 PM. |

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the feedback. My original question was in regards to the R1 (2006) Code Red with the silver mast sleeve. With the factory specs the sail just looked too flat and rotation was hard. Will try with 3-4 cm less downhaul. I think you are referrering to the new Code Reds R3 Also have a new R3 Code Red 6.7 and added the recommended spacers. Cheers |

Hi Hookipa,
no prob. I referred to the 2007 models of the Code Red ("07" or "R2"). My impression was that the 7,7 worked much more efficient with some spacers in (2,4,4,2). But you are right, I do not have the R1 of 2006. The new "Code Red 08" I only have in 9,0 and it needs spacers (4,12,12,4). Good luck with the tuning, Chris www.chrispressler.com |
