Question for Remi. iSonic 133 vs. iSonic 150?

I'm looking for a light wind board. I've sailed a friend's 133 and found that it planed very early and cruised through lulls very, very well. I'm curious to know how the iSonic 150 compares against the 133 for light to moderate wind sailing - planing and top speeds. What's the purpose of the iS150? Thanks for any information.

Hi Grant,

The iSonic 150 is a real light wind slalom machine, for sure it plane earlier than the 133. But this one is under the PWA rules (85cm wide max).

If you want to use this 150 with 10m² or more in light wind, it's a real good choice.

Thanks for your response. I don't care about the PWA rules, but maybe that's why there's not much information about the iS150 on the forums here. I'm interested in a board that's competitive with the iS133 with a 9.0 or bigger, but will carry a bigger sail in the lighter winds. Does the iS150 do this? Would the Formula 162 be a better choice?

Hi Grant,

The iSonic 150 can carry 11m² but prefer it with 10m². What is your weight?

It's depend of what you want, fast speed on reaching or fast up wind and down wind. It's 2 different machine, 1 Formula and 1 Slalom.

Hi Remi,

I'm about 82 kilograms in weight. I've owned and sailed a 147 formula and presently own both the Free Formula 158 and 138. I was surprised how early the 133 plans and how well it goes through lulls. What I'm really interested in knowing are the similarities and differences between the iS150 and iS133. - planing, speed on a reach, upwind, downwind etc. Is the iS150 just a bigger version of the iS133, but for lighter winds with some compromise to top end speed? I am looking for a board that plans earlier than the iS133, has similar top end speed and will carry slightly bigger sails (if there is such a beast). Thanks for your help.

Hi Grant,

In this case, it's the board for you. Better planing than then 133 and better speed particularly in light winds in all tacks. Perfect with a 10m².

Can you advise on the low wind abilities of the FT-158 with the Isonic 150 for a sailor Grant's size (using a 10 meter sail and comparable sized fins)? Thanks for the help.

Hi Paulo,

The FT 158 was more Formula oriented or the iSonic 150 is a reall light wind slalom. 2 different machine for 2 different programm.The iSonic 150 will be faster for sure with 10 meter in slalom version.

Are the rear rails on the iS150 alot thinner in the iS144? I'v not seen a iS150 in the flesh, but have heard that the rear of the board is much thinner than the iS144, is this correct?
