If you saw Sylt conditions in the flesh, it becomes clear why most races are called "surf slalom". Even though the average level of a PWA racer is much higher than us week-end warriors, most of the guys/girls are looking to just survive let alone win. Its mainly the top flight with victory on their mind.

Indeed rankings are being shaken up in Sylt.
It's easy to guess that competing in such weather must need tons of motivation, and AA might not be 100% motivated; BD probably is. Other "board manufacturer independent" sailors reported to have choosen Mantas over iSonics because of easier sailing, which probably turned useful in Sylt; meaning that probably iSonics are not the best suited for the conditions. Also to note that most sailors registered rather big stuff as smaller boards (iS101 and 111), and sails 7.0 and up. Probably relying on wave eliminations being sailed in the tough weather. Seems to me that high wind iSonics (94/96 and smaller) are designed much differently respect to med/light winds ones (101 and up), while other brands offer more evenly designed ranges. In other words, i. e.: iS101 KP registered as his smaller board differs from the iS86 he probably would have liked to sail much more than Ross Williams' smaller Manta64 differs from a Manta59. Yes it is very interesting to se hvat they registered an they were forcet to use in these contitions. Sail a 111 L board and +8 m2 sail in these conditions.
But it looks like changes on the last day/race. So maybe Isonic on top end of the day :-) Cheers |

Star-board copied the Hypersonic from a Manta board. They have no RIGHT to wins. Each day is different.
