Some Swedish guys ice surfing on their frozen lake. Looks cold and must hurt if you crash. Ajj...

Have someone tried it and what did you think about it? Can it be a substitute for all of thews how wait for their lake to melt?

the past weeks in Holland we've been ice surfing again. Though the ice has already melted again it did give a lot of my mate the oppotunity to but they craftsmanship to action and make their very own ice-surfer and have a icy cold time .. me, i'm no ice fan, i'm waiting for people to get their 5:3's back on and join me in a winterwindsurfsession cuz this 6 week break is killing me!

important thing to remember: ice is not as soft as water

early 2008 I built a snow sailer with an old snow board and alpine skis
when i finished building and testing, it was March and not much snow left
also had my very old NP 7.0 3 camber sail on a day with 30 to 50 kph winds
I was flying !!! AND broke my left shoulder %^&*()
missed about 3 WS sessions in spring 2008, but was back on the water with no real impact
bought a Maui Sails 8.5 sail end of 2008 to try and get some real speed on water
cuz the speed was just unbeatable

suggestion: wear lotsa clothes, a helmut and use smaller sails
was gonna try it on snow this winter, but it was either too warm or too cold
snow is NOT lacking in Quebec Canada :-)

we do a lot of icesurfing on our lake Neusiedlersee/Austria in winter time.
I prefer short skies and a kit (mat type in 3, 5, 7 sqm) for good feeling and perfect thigh muscle training. (top speed until now 80 km/h)
Sometimes I go on my ice boat (DN): much adrenalin but low muscle training. (top speed until now 112km/h)
My friends are using ice boards, like skate boards with steel runners and 4 to 8 sqm race sails. (Top speed app. 90km/h until now)

its snow surfing for me, lots of straight line fun, must get a good board though or make a good one otherwise its a total pain in the ass with the board spinning out every two seconds...

It´s really fun, my friends have done 40 knots on Roxen lake. It´s better to use small sails around 5 m as there is hardly no friction. We use knee pads and helmets.

ice is fast. thats the draw. the wipeouts can be bad so wear the helmet and pads for sure. have lots of fun.

The original snowfer board made in Toronto is a fine marginal ice and snow board. It has 4 blades set flush in a fibreglass (more like bondo ,lol.) hull with a waxable base. Used it on fields on windy days and lakes on lighter days. It's heavy and works much better on ice, but snow makes for board-like carving, turning on ice is like turning a longboard in light wind, windward rail pressure to turn downwind. Wear a helmet. Usually wear hip padding as well.
