Default iSonic 117 wide, right selection?

Hi

I'll buy an 8.6 Reflex, and I'm thinking to get the iS 117 wide.
My weigh is 79-83 kg, and my other board is the iS 111 2010. Other sail sizes 6.8 and 7.8.

Is this board the best choice?
Which range of wind will cover the combination of 8.6 and this board?
Which size of fins (1 for sail) are recommended for the 8.6 and the 7.8 sails?

Thanks and Good Wind

Great choice.

Why not go up to the 127? The 111 and 117 are too close together unless you are selling the 111 and buying the 117 as a replacement.

The 111 will carry the 8.6 Reflex just fine, but will be a little better with the 127. Eventually, you can get a 9.2 for lighter winds.

For fins, something around 44cm for the 8.6 and 42cm for the 7.8. If you are racing downwind slalom, then maybe 2cm less.

Thanks a lot Ken

Many people told me about the combination 8.6-iSonic 111 as "possible" but less than ideal to get all the sail performance. Just in my place the light wind is reached and thought that 80cm wide should be the best combination for the 8.6 rig.

Thought in 117wide because could be the best combo with this rig, and I think I will not get anything bigger in the near future.

Anyway, what could be the wind range with 8.6 and the two commented boards (117Wide-127) ?.

Your tips are greatly appreciated, please offer me more about your knowledge.

Good wind

I posted pretty much the same question:

http://www.star-board.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9447

Maybe this helps a bit! Allthough I am also curious as to the wind range of the 117W and 127 with 8.6 sail!

Hi SilverSurfer,

The combination of the iSonic 117W and the Severne Reflex 8.6 will be absolutely perfect with a Deboichet R16 46 for racers of 75/85. 127 is the perfect one for racers more heavy 85/95 and 137 95 and more but with Sails 9.2/9.7 and Deboichet R16 50/52.

This board will be perfect for light winds race in the PWA format.

In case you want to change your iSonic 111 the great choice for you will be the 97 that you will use mostly with the 6.8.

iSonic 117W : 7.8/8.6
iSonic 97 : 6.8/7.8

If you don't change the different of the board is enough between the 68cm wide 111 and 80.5cm wide for the 117 Wide.

Hope this help.

All the best

SilverSurfer,

I don't know that I can add much more to the issue unless you have another question.

Regarding the iS 111 and an 8.6 sail, I have a Maui Sails TR3 8.4 with an HPL carbon formula boom (very heavy). The whole rig is very heavy and not my favorite. I went out on this two days ago in building, but variable winds as a front came through, It was fine for a short time until the wind hit 18 knots, then it was a struggle for me. In the holes (off plane), the rig is not great at slogging. I weigh 78kg. I am also 65 years old, so I have a little more difficulty hanging on to big rigs in strong winds. Bigger stronger guys will do fine with an 8.4-6 on the iS111. When the winds are steady, I do fine with my 8.4, but in the holes and gusts, it's not fun.

My friends told me just the same about the combo of iSonic111 and 8.6, the board only works fine in steady winds, downwind...but the in light wind range has some problems.

Good wind

The magical sail size for the 111 is a 7.6m sail and a 42cm fin.
