Hi Team,
I have only the stock fin (Drake R13 Race SL 480 S-Flex - Deep Tuttle) for my 2009 GO 144L board. What would be the recommended sail size range for this fin? I plan on getting one more fin (or two?). What are other recommended sail/fin combinations? Thank you! |

This 2009 144L Go board has the same shape as Futura. Can somebody give me some advice about the fin/sail combinations and/or fin recommendations? Thank you!

Hi Luis2009,
The stock 48 cm fin will be good for sails in the 6.0-7.5 range. The true wind range of the GO 144 will be in the 12 knots to 20 knots range. So sail size would seem to be in the 5.5 -8.5 range. If you are "out of control" at 18-20 knots, with a 5.5-6.5 m2 rig, a smaller fin in the 42-46 cm range (and something with a bit more curvy planform) will help with control of the board. If you want to get the absolute earliest planing with the GO 144, then an 8.5-9.0 rig and a fin in the 52-56 cm range will help you to get going, but once the wind increases to where the 8.5 m2+ rig is too much, then put the stock 48 cm back in the board. Are you all the way back on the board with the footstraps in the back and outboard positions? If not, work on getting comfortable with the footstraps back and out, with 6.5-7.5 m2 rigs and the 48 cm Drake fin. Hope this helps, Roger |
